Inventive use of architectural design elements helps create an urban building that fits within the context of downtown McAllen’s low scale commercial buildings.  Architectural compositional elements evident in downtown McAllen were identified, documented and re-interpreted as the basis for the basic design image for the building.  Small bay spacing, a variety of canopy shapes and sizes, and bright colored tile storefronts, all evident throughout downtown McAllen, form the core of the design. At the most visible and active corner of the project the first parking level above ground is set back and this extra height space is used to make a focal point of the tenant area, provide shaded areas to support outdoor activities related to the food tenant areas and attract interest and activate the first floor level of the space.
