On Tuesday, November 18, 2014, the American Institute of Architects San Antonio chapter announced its 2014 awards for excellence in design. Alamo Architects won the honor award for “Unbuilt projects” for the Fire Training Center at the First Responders Academy (Alamo Colleges). Congratulations goes to Helen Pierce, Steve Marrone, and James Calaway.

Juror Joan Soranno, FAIA said, “Everything about it is innovative. It’s interesting, the composition of the shipping crates and trusses and PV panels; it’s a fairly simple concept but really, really powerful.”
