Big Tex

Big Tex

Alamo Architects is involved in planning for Big Tex, a unique mixed-use development to be located on the site of the former Big Tex Grain Company. The community will be located next to several landmark cultural arts destinations and historic neighborhoods just south of downtown San Antonio.

The Master Plan calls for the sprawling site to be redeveloped into 121 multifamily units, 12 townhouses and 50,000 square feet of new and remodeled commercial space and live/work units. The site is bounded on one side by the San Antonio River and on the other by a highly active railroad line, requiring creative solutions to address issues such as noise abatement, access and utilities. Existing industrial structures provide an edgy referent for new architecture.

Residents will enjoy proximity to the lively Blue Star Arts Complex and a hike-and-bike trail that is to run the length of the river, just highlight a few of the many unique features of the planned development.
