This new five-level parking garage builds upon the urban fabric of downtown McAllen and is the first component of the “Heart of the City” project conceived by the City Commission and local businesses to invigorate the area.
As with our previous work on San Antonio’s St. Mary’s Street Garage, the overall concept of the structure’s design is to use architectural design elements to create an urban building that fits within the context of downtown McAllen’s low scale commercial buildings. This facility accommodates approximately 438 cars and incorporates approximately 13,800 square feet of ground floor tenant lease space. Small bay spacing, a variety of canopy shapes and sizes, and bright colored tile storefronts form the core of this design.
At the most significant corner of the project, the first parking level above ground is pulled back, carving out a street level focal point of the retail tenant area. This double height space provides shaded areas and creates interest in the first-floor level.
