Tacara Master Plan

As developers of retail shopping centers move away from enclosed malls, a concurrent trend is the integration of retail, office and residential spaces in a single development project. Beginning soon after the opening of The Shops at La Cantera, this project represents a natural next step in the firm’s capabilities towards projects of broader scope. The study showcases our ability to provide the sound fundamentals of planning and evocative visuals that allow the developer to “advance the ball” in seeking partnerships.

Located on the corner of Stone Oak Parkway and Highway 281N in San Antonio, this 980,000 square-foot mixed use project is a fully-integrated urban community. Situating shopping, dining and entertainment at ground level, the project’s second and third floors expand the offering with office and living spaces. Configured to flow with the topography of its canyon-like setting, the project surrounds a triangular center of buildings and public spaces designed to integrate inside and outside - much like a Mexican colonial city’s streets and buildings interweave. Inspired by the colorful village of Guanajuato and others like it, the romantic town center is the activity hub of the project, surrounded on three sides by residential and office uses as well as additional retail. Parking is handled in decks behind the office and housing, with paseos linking it through the ground floors.
