One of our most high-profile interior design projects is the newly renovated El Tropicano Hotel, a Holiday Inn property just north of the central downtown business district. The El Tropicano first opened in 1963 as a sophisticated, modern resort on the San Antonio River, and became an international destination for politicians, presidents and movie stars. Somewhat dwarfed by contemporary standards of resort hotels, the El Trop offers the business traveler and families an exclusive getaway with relaxed poolside amenities and boutique hotel manners. By combining contemporary design elements with materials and colors that reference its 1960s hip-ness, Alamo Architects updated the look of the hotel, restoring its sleek resort ambience - with just a touch of tiki.
Winning the San Antonio Business Journal’s prestigious Award for Best Interior Design for 2006, the El Tropicano Hotel renovation has been recognized not only as a design success, but also as an important contribution to the ongoing improvement of downtown San Antonio and the San Antonio River District’s Museum Reach.
