This planned condominium conversion
of an Atlee B Ayers-designed warehouse building in downtown San Antonio
will become home to a new and vibrant community. Knitting into the already
colorful urban fabric of the South Flores street redevelopment, Steel House
Lofts will be an upscale housing choice for young professionals and families
interested in living near where they work or attend school.
Excellent proximity to downtown business hubs, universities, and cultural attractions make this area desirable. Easy access to city transportation makes commuting by mass transit an attractive option, as well as a green alternative. Many nearby destinations are bicycling range, and the bike/hike paths along the San Antonio River are nearby.
Many features of the building will incorporate sustainable building techniques, starting with adaptive re-use of an existing building, and incorporating strategic use of sun-control mechanisms and roof overhangs to mitigate solar gain, water conservation in landscape planning, and interior finishes made from renewable resources and specified for low emissions ratings.
Two additional stories are planned, expanding available square footage to the existing historic mercantile building. Single-story flats and double-height lofts are planned as typical loft spaces. The building will have community amenities such as pool and outdoor entertaining areas, fitness and wellness facilities, a lobby reception area, and private parking.
