Project Size: 9,400 sf

The new Geekdom headquarters occupies the 7th floor of the historic Rand Building in downtown San Antonio, just a block from Main Plaza and City Hall. The Rand was originally built as the Wolf and Marx Department store in 1913 and has served as a bank office for over 30 years. The ongoing transformation of the Rand to create a downtown magnet for tech-related companies from training facilities to startups
continues.

Geekdom’s 7th floor offices are one part of a greater strategy to foster technology related businesses and training in downtown San Antonio. The 6th floor is targeted as office space for established tech companies that outgrow Geekdom. An Event Centre, located next to the Rand at street level, will host events like  investor proposals and receptions in addition to offering a lounge and gaming space for Geekdom members. The new Geekdom Offices on floor 7 of the Rand has bike racks, a shower room, lockers, and a napping area. Transparent glass sliding doors on the offices give the entire floor a wide-open feel as the whole place is meant to be one big community work environment. The space has 20 offices available for tech startups. The community work area is larger than the current location and snakes throughout the floor, including open corner lounges and a centralized gathering space. The space includes two different sized conference rooms.

Offices receive abundant daylight from the fully windowed building perimeter and the central atrium. Partially frosted film on the office glass doors provides privacy for occupants at lower heights but allows transparency when standing. Removable wall panels will allow building management to combine smaller offices into larger ones as companies grow.

Since opening in 2014, Geekdom has become a bee hive for tech innovators and a catalyst for downtown’s renewed vitality.
