Two large pylons with large lettering flank the building and announce the fire station from both north and south, scaled to the fast moving traffic of the area.  Located in a fast growing neighborhood in North San Antonio, Fire Station No. 48 is near an abandoned quarry, nearby are private houses, and developing communities. A  combination of stonework, metal panels, and glazing sympathetic to the buildings use and the rural and industrial history of the area are the major materials.
